HealthCare Chaplaincy CPE and Supervisory Education Opportunities
HealthCare Chaplaincy (HCC), incorporated in 1961, is one of the largest and most influential multifaith, not-for-profit centers for pastoral care, education, research, and consulting in the world. From its operational hub in Manhattan, the Chaplaincy's clinical staff provides professional spiritual care to patients, families, and staff of all faiths in numerous healthcare institutions throughout the greater New York region. HCC’s education programs teach clergy and qualified laypersons of all religious traditions the art and science of pastoral care. The research and consulting services are focused on studying and promoting best practice and quality assurance in pastoral care. Each year HCC enrolls over 100 Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students of various faith traditions in different healthcare settings in and around New York City. Our CPE programs, accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Care (ACPE), include Level I, Level II and Supervisory Education. Two-day Professional Training in Cognitive Processing Therapy
March 25 and 26 at SUNY New Paltz. Sponsored by the New York State Office of Mental Health and will be offered by the Institute for Disaster Mental Health at SUNY New Paltz. Led by Patricia A. Resick, Ph.D. Between disasters, interpersonal violence, and combat experiences, traumatic events are common in modern life. Fortunately most people recover on their own or with help from family and friends, but some develop posttraumatic stress disorder. Left untreated, PTSD can drastically impair the quality of life for sufferers and their loved ones, and can result in substance abuse or suicide. One of the most effective evidence-based treatments for PTSD is Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a 12-session cognitive behavioral treatment. CPT is predominantly a cognitive therapy that can be implemented with or without a smaller exposure component than imaginal exposure therapy and is therefore more acceptable to many clients and practitioners seeking alternatives to purely exposure-focused treatments. It also directly targets associated problems such as depression, guilt, and anger. Originally developed for rape and sexual assault, CPT has been successfully applied to veterans, refugees, and survivors of other traumas.
