Editorial Policy

PlainViews is committed to providing a forum for getting and sharing information about chaplaincy and spiritual care among professional chaplains and those who support them. We seek to present views from all responsible perspectives in order to encourage healthy dialogue among professionals in a still-evolving profession. The views expressed by editors and contributors do not necessarily reflect those of the publisher.

Editorial Style

Out of respect to the variety of faith practices encompassed by chaplaincy, PlainViews uses the term “G-d” when referring to the supreme deity when requested by an author of an article.

Sponsorship and Publication

Editorial direction for PlainViews is provided by a multifaith advisory board of pastoral care professionals throughout the world. PlainViews is sponsored and published by HealthCare Chaplaincy.

Submission Guidelines

Editorial content is divided into the following categories. Please tailor your submission to one of these categories:

Professional Practice: Core values of chaplaincy, i.e., clinical issues, best practices, cutting edge programs, and areas of specialization.

Advocacy: Legislation or regulation that impacts chaplains and other spiritual care providers, promoting chaplains as integral members of the interdisciplinary care team, and spiritual care as a crucial component of healthcare.

Education & Research: New trends in certification, cultural diversity training, professional and bio-ethics, programs to bring chaplains and local clergy together, news of research programs underway or completed, and research that demonstrates the link between spirituality and healing.

Spiritual Development: Care of the soul and spirit, self-care for the caregiver, how chaplains can maintain their own spirituality in the midst of suffering.

Please try to limit your submission to no more than 500 words; for TalkBack, 300 words. While editors read each submission, considerations of space and appropriateness make it impossible for us to guarantee publication. If your article, commentary, or letter to the editor is selected for publication, you will be contacted via e-mail before publication. As noted below, PlainViews permits the reproduction of articles published here, with acknowledgement of the author and the source.

All submissions may be edited and republished by PlainViews or HealthCare Chaplaincy in any format.

Contributors must attribute any submission material that has been published elsewhere or is subject to copyright protection, in whole or part.
